WLS and Transfer Addiction in our community

As I have said before I am a Weight Loss Surgery Post Op. The ppl in this community are really more like a family since we all share a common issue and both before and after surgery the support we get is very important. Well, I watched a video yesterday about alcoholism and how it is becoming rampant in the WLS community. 1 in 10 will have some form of it with in 2 yrs of surgery. 1 IN 10! that is not acceptable... we are being failed. but failed by whom??? by the doctors? by the mental health professionals that are allow us to have surgery to begin with? both? or are we really failing each other and ourselves by not seeing the problem and choosing to not speak up. We have all seen the post of " having a drink tonight" or " man i am drunk..hehhe".   http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/video/gastric-bypass-fuel-alcoholism-16600168#.T-IlgEVqd6A.blogger
While all of us may have a drink once in a while we have also seen these post become a daily or almost daily thing and we just "like" the post or make some cutesy comment and go about our day unmoved. We need to become moved to action. 1 in 10 is 1 to many in my book..... these are ppl who have altered their lives so that they would not have to die and early death due to obesity and yet they have now handed their new "healthy" lives over to a bottle. Make sense????? I dont think so! The fun doesn't end there however, the numbers are not in but we are also seeing a rise in transfer addiction to shopping, sex ,exercise, you name it... Any time that something consumes your life it needs to be dealt with. By not dealing with it before surgery we are all setting ourselves up for failure. I have taken some slack for saying EVERYONE needs and should be mandated to have 4-5 therapy visits and MINIMUM to address potential issues. Perhaps some of these issues would be dealt with and we would not be seeing our community getting sick and some will die as well.
I feel as if I have been led here. I am a social work major and while i dont think it makes me "special" i do think it gives me a unique outlook on this issue. I have been through the classes and can see what is happening and can now use my voice with knowledge behind it to hopefully reach someone that otherwise may fall between the cracks. God leads us to where HE wants us not where we want to go... One final thought for the day :
God doesnt CALL the QUALIFIED... He QUALIFIES the CALLED :)
